Windows/Linux computer partitioning for RNAseq

(EDIT: As some of you have made me know, this is not a pertinent question for this forum. Therefore, I'll delete it in the next hour.) I have a computer with 64GB memory and OS(C:)952 GB (Total) and I want to install Linux (dual boot) in order to perform my RNA-seq bioinformatics. How much do you recommend to shrinkage my C: unit for to have a pre-alignment well performance and a decent windows system that still allows me common computer functions (R-studio analysis, text writing, editing etc)? Thanks in advance

You don't need Windows for RStudio, text writing and editing.

I don't blame you for wanting to keep a windows partition. I don't really see why this is posted here though. There's loads of info about installing dual boot linux. Ensure that your hard drive formatting is appropriate for linux

Indeed, this is not quite the place for this. There are other more IT-related forums where you will get a better response.

My own ideal setup:

  • 1 linux desktop machine with Ubuntu server (high spec)
  • 1 laptop with Windows (normal spec)

I use the Windows laptop for everything by remote desktop or SSH into the linux machine, from anywhere in the World where I can grab an Internet connection.

If you want to keep your Windows, why not a virtual machine ? If you don't want to keep your dual boot forever, try VirtualBox : https://www.virtualbox.org/

Actually windows 10 directy supports ubunto bash shell. It works good.
