Can I use Canu corrected reads without Can trim?
I have ran canu -corect on a set of Nanopore reads which I want to further assemble using SMARTdenovo (maybe also MaSuRCA together with Illumina reads). I tried to correct the reads with canu -trim, but after 4 days the job stopped on my server. I therefore wondered what is actually canu -trim doing and do I need this step before assembly?
