Forum: Suitable course in bioinformatics after high school

I am a 12 passout and I wish to pursue my further studies in bioinformatics. But I am still confused what course I should go for. BSc + MSc or something else? Basically I want to get a good job after I finish studying. I know this is something everyone wants but I want to plan for the things right now. Also I am learning C language and will keep on learning more one by one. But please suggest a course I should go for.

Getting a job is never a good reason for selecting a particular field. By the time you acquire necessary expertise the focus on that field may have moved on.You should concentrate on getting an undergraduate degree first before you think about specializing in a particular field. Keep your options open and try to find a subject that you find intellectually challenging. You may decide that you actually like quantum computing over bioinformatics :)

I am interested in the field for sure but the point is that after doing an MSc will I get a good job? If not, then what course should i go for

I am sure that it is a good area but i jst want to make sure if an Msc in bioinformatics gets a good job or not and if not then what course should i go for i.e. BTech in bioinformatics or something like that may be.. All this is because i have people telling me that after doing MSc one hardly gets a job

In general, it depends upon many facrors: it depends upon the University you will graduate from.

As well as of your diploma from there.

Are you ready to leave your homeland, or you want to work somewhere nearby.

PhD is more competitive, of course, but it depends upon your interests: you would like

only write some software or participate in some experimental work as well.

Mostly it depends upon the first laboratory

you will choose, upon your first teachers and|or supervisors. You may easily change your mind 2 years later...

It's a long way, it's hard to predict what will be necessary in 5-7 years...
