There are several ways to compute a gene set enrichment score. To my knowledge, the first one was proposed in this paper and modified in this one but since then others have been proposed such as here, here and here. So you should clarify which gene set enrichment method you're interested in. Anyway, you can check in the papers how they are computed and if that looks like a correlation coefficient.
