What are the advantages of domain homology search against KOG/COG database?

Hi all friends,

I know that InterProScan and KOG/COG database are used for finding the putative domains within protein sequences. However, the InterProScan is clearer for me than KOG. I see that several papers show the output of KOG annotation just as a simple graph. I was wondering what is the benefits and advantages of KOG/COG annotation, could you please let me know your explanation on this issue?
