The position:

This is a great opportunity for you to undertake innovative research in clinical bioinformatics and statistical genetics with Australia’s premier researchers at CSIRO. As a Postdoctoral Fellow with CSIRO Health and Biosecurity, you will have a unique opportunity to translate your research into practice with impact on both Australian and international e-Health programmes.

The successful candidate for this role will be highly motivated, enthusiastic and ready to make a significant contribution to the genetics and genomics aspects of a recently funded NHMRC team grant. The Postdoctoral Fellow will work closely with researchers from CSIRO’s Transformational Bioinformatics Team as well as with research colleagues at the Macquarie Motor Neurone Disease Research Centre. The research aims to elucidate the genetic component of frontotemporal dementia (FTD) and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), also known as motor neurone disease (MND).

Make a hands-on contribution to solving the research challenges in processing raw data from large-cohort whole genome sequencing, DNA methylation and gene expression datasets. Develop methodologies using traditional high-performance compute parallelization strategies and novel BigData approaches (e.g. Spark) to clarify molecular function or support the genomic engineering of animal models. Liaise with other international contributors to Project MinE to coordinate analysis pipelines.
