Description

Joint postdoctoral position in bioinformatics
is available at the Max Delbrück Center for Molecular Medicine (Berlin) in the research groups of Dr. Marina Chekulaeva (Non-coding RNAs and mechanisms of cytoplasmic gene regulation) and Dr. Altuna Akalin (Bioinformatics Platform). The position will be a part of the project "mRNA localization and local translation in neuronal cells". In highly polarized cells, many mRNAs have specific subcellular localization patterns and their translation is often regulated in a localization-dependent manner. We have conducted a screen to identify neuronal RNAs that change their localization and translation patterns upon abrogation of the miRNA function. The selected candidate will work a close tandem with experimentalists, analyzing RNA-seq, ribosome profiling, CLIP and mass-spectrometry data.
The successful candidate will benefit from the international research environment and excellent learning opportunities. There will also be a chance to develop one's own line of research for the future independent career.

The Max Delbrück Center for Molecular Medicine (MDC) is one of the leading biomedical institutes dedicated to interdisciplinary research. The most recent expansion of the MDC is the Berlin Institute for Medical Systems Biology (BIMSB). It employs international stuff and runs an extensive scientific program in systems biology, integrating high-throughput technologies with bioinformatics, biochemistry, molecular and developmental biology. For more information on the institute and our labs, see http://www.mdc-berlin.de/en/bimsb/.

Skills

Applicants should have PhD degree in computational genomics, bioinformatics, computer science, statistics or an equivalent quantitative field. We are looking for talented researchers with a proven track record in bioinformatics. The ideal candidate should have excellent programming skills for data analysis preferably in R and in one of the scripting languages such as Perl/Python. In addition,
experience in C/C++ would be beneficial and highly desirable. Statistics and machine learning coursework and/or demonstrated application of those in previous research is also necessary.

Salary: E 13 TvÖD/Bund
