We seek an energetic and experienced bioinformatics expert to lead a new Bioinformatics Core Facility located in the Division of Intramural Research (DIR), National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI), NIH in Bethesda, Maryland, USA. The Core Director and his/her personnel will work with NHLBI DIR Principal Investigators to convert information to knowledge in projects utilizing next generation DNA sequencing, mass spectrometry-based proteomics, and metabolomics approaches. The DIR has two very active large-scale data generation core facilities, viz. the NHLBI DNA Sequencing Core and the NHLBI Proteomics Core, and the incumbent will be expected to interact with their respective Directors to assure seamless data transfer. NHLBI DIR investigators are engaged in a broad array of investigations in both basic and translational arenas, creating a nearly continuous stream of interesting and diverse bioinformatics needs, many requiring development of novel bioinformatics approaches. The incumbent will supervise the Core staff, manage the Core budget, oversee training of Core users, and will interact with the DIR's Scientific Information Officer to sustain a state-of-the-art computational infrastructure.
Applicants must have a Ph.D. (or equivalent) and have significant experience in many aspects of bioinformatics documented by citable publications. Experience with machine learning, cross platform data integration, and Bayesian statistics are desirable. Excellent interpersonal skills are a requirement.
