Web Developer for synthetic biology research platform

The Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Biosustainability (DTU Biosustain) at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU) is seeking a passionate and talented web developer to help build a modern web platform for synthetic biology research at the center near Copenhagen, Denmark.

DTU Biosustain is an independent research unit at the DTU that conducts research on the development of "cell factories" - genetically engineered microbes that produce chemicals efficiently from sustainable resources, rather than from fossil fuels, thereby reducing the environmental footprint of plastics and other chemically derived products. We want to build new cell factories faster and cheaper to enable using them as a viable alternative to current petroleum-based production methods.

Job Description

You'll play a key role in the development of a scientific software platform used by our scientists, designing and further developing the platform and taking ownership of new tools and features you create in the process.

The research we do produces large quantities of data from robotics, genome sequencing, and computational modeling. The task of the platform we are building is to make this data accessible using intuitive browser-based visualization interfaces analysis and tools to help us make better, more informed cell factory design decisions.

We will teach you about our research and our software stack - so you don't need to know everything before you start - but you should be a strong independent learner able to work both alone and with others. You should already have a solid foundation in web development, a strong attention to detail, and a sense for design and usability. Depending on your qualifications and interests you will develop primarily for the front-end in AngularJS or full-stack with Python and Node.js.

Skills & Requirements

  • A degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent work experience
  • Experience with AngularJS or another modern JavaScript framework
  • Some knowledge of version control, agile, and test-driven development
  • Languages: JavaScript for back- and frontend, Python for backend
  • Some scientific, data analysis, visualization, engineering or robotics/automation background is a plus

If you have public profiles in the development community such as on GitHub or StackExchange, please include the links with your CV or cover letter.

What we can offer:

  • A meaningful mission to help us transition to a more sustainable economy
  • Opportunity to build a unique web platform for data- and automation- driven synthetic biology
  • The chance to work with a young, enthusiastic, and international group of engineers and scientists
  • In-house canteen with lunch club, in-house gym, brewing club and more

Salary and terms of employment

The salary and appointment terms will be based on collective agreement. The salary will be agreed with the relevant union.

The place of work will be the CFB building at Kogle Allé 6, Hørsholm, just north of Copenhagen.

The period of employment is 3 years with the possibility for extension.
