How to find Molecular Mechanish of a Protein ?

Genetic Screening was carried out for genes involved in the stress response in E. coli. From this screen a gene was identified that encodes a 50 kDa flexible protein (Protein X), which does not have any primary sequence-based similarities with known proteins. What would be next step to understand the molecular mechanism of protein X?

It's still a homework or school problem. You have to tell us what question you have with it. What have you tried so far and what confusion has it caused? It's not clear without context what genetic screening is. Is the 50 kDa a concern? The question as written is very broad and cannot be precisely answered by an internet forum.

Seems the question is appeared in an examination. Anyways one way to follow is 'ab initio' method to predict the structure, form there mechanism. Comparative modelling will not work as you mentioned there are no primary sequence based similarities found with known proteins. But still with 30-40% similarity there are many ways to predict its structure with good resolution. We should have a protein's structure to understand its mechanisms.
