RPS Blast, COG and KOG analysis

Hello,

Is there a tutorial somewhere in setting up your own RPS BLAST database and finding KOG and COGs in a given proteome?

The only way I know how to do it is through http://weizhong-lab.ucsd.edu/metagenomic-analysis/server/kog/ an online server with a 2011 rpsblast database. Is RPS BLAST obsolete now? Is there something that replaced this sort of analysis?

Thanks,

Adrian

Hello I had a similar question concerning the KOG database. Did you ever figure out your answer? I want to search for genes in KOG database but can't convert gene IDs to match the ones in the KOG database and the Weizhong lab website is no longer accessible.

Hi Adrian:

"Found COG and KOG databases here: ftp://ftp.ncbi.nih.gov/pub/mmdb/cdd/little_endian/"

Are these the updated KOGs. I didnt find any updates for the KOGs in the COG db ftp site
