Since 2008, I've also served as the co-chair of President Obama's Council of Advisors on Science and Technology (PCAST),
So I don't see what is wrong with being US centric. Plus it could also be rephrased as the sentiment is most likely the same everywhere - where does one look for smaller amounts that would support side projects?
