reference and effective allele

Hi

Can someone explain to me what is the difference between a reference and an effective allele?

Thanks

Some context on where you heard the term "effective allele" would help. It is not a common term. Ref allele is the allele found at the position of interest in the reference genome sequence. This term is seen often in variant calling.
