Job Description

Supports the Translational Medicine scientific computational analytics pipeline with system programming, data management, data security, STSIweb.org scientific analytics interfacing, and the San Diego Super Computer Data pipelines and interfaces.

Basic Qualifications: Bachelors of Computer Science, Bioinformatics, or Computational Biology (2+ years of experience).

Minimum Qualifications: Proficiency with multiple high level programming languages (Python, Java, Perl, C, C++). Other skills: Profiency with HTML, Javascript, Bash, Linux (or Unix), XML, computer hardware setup and configuration, databases (MySQL, mongoDB). Quickly acquire new skills or domain knowledge as required to fulfill scientific project requirements.

Preferred Qualifications: Masters degree preferred.

Required Skills

Develop and maintain novel research grade software, analytical pipelines, and webservers, especially related to the analysis of genomic data, within a high performance computing environment and under the guidance of scientific director. Take abstract programmatic requirements and transform them into formal requirements. Manage large volumes of data. Maintain and administer data stores (relational databases, non-relation databases, file-based data stores). Securely store and backup data locally. Manage secure transfer of data to collaborators. Receive and retrieve data from external sources and prepare for execution within data analysis pipelines. Ensure security of potentially sensitive genetic data. Server administration. Perform infrastructure planning and management to support data analysis and storage needs. Project future requirements and perform evaluations of potential infrastructure solutions. Receive/retrieve data from physical instrumentation (i.e., DNA sequencers, motion capture devices) and prepare for processing within data analysis pipelines. Assist debugging physical instrumentation data as required. Implement, expand, operate, and maintain computational pipelines in a high performance computing environment. Implement novel systems based on gathered requirements or from published methods. Provide technical expertise on software, hardware, and programming. Support the analytical needs of research directors and staff. Perform custom data manipulation and help scientists with little programming experience perform their tasks, data annotation and analysis. Represent team at Conferences. Read Research Papers to keep abreast on the latest Translational Research; participate and present at Journal Club and Research Meetings. Mentor and train Interns. Participate in the writing and submission of scientific papers under the guidance of director.

San Diego based candidates are preferred.
