help with understanding the words "clinical trial enrollment" in paper

Hi

I read paper which is name "Whole-exome sequencing and clinical interpretation of formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded tumor samples to guide precision cancer medicine".

In the text, I don't understand the words that "clinical trial enrollment".

it appears in below sentence.

"Prospective application of this platform in patients with a range of tumor types indicates that this approach can be used for both biological discovery and clinical trial enrollment."

I know the clinical trail but in above case, a word "enrollment" is added to clinical trial. so the word clinical trial enrollment is very strange to me.

I hope you understand my questions. I am very beginner in this field.

What this means is that one could use this technology to find candidates suitable for a particular clinical trial (suitable in that they have some genetic characteristic that's desirable for a compound's efficacy). "Enrollment" is just the "act of enrolling", which just means to register for something.
