We are looking for a highly motivated cloud architect/engineer to support the interdisciplinary work of research biologists, medical scientists, and clinicians studying cancer and other human diseases in the Division of Oncology within the Department of Medicine at Washington University in St. Louis. Our investigators are at the forefront of developing and applying computational tools to previously unapproachable problems through creative use of big data in biomedical and clinical research. Job responsibilities of this position will primarily be directed at transitioning oncology division investigators toward the cloud, including code modification and containerization, design input, support, and maintenance. Secondary duties will include system administration and system programming for several local compute clusters used by oncology investigators. Minimum education and experience: Certification or a degree in computer programming, computer science, or a closely-related discipline from a technical school or college plus 2 years of relevant work experience are required. Master's degree is preferred, but additional relevant programming experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for required education. Applicants should have a strong background in computer science theory and applications and experience in systems administration and cloud services. We are especially interested in individuals having strong, demonstrated skills in scripting languages (Python, Perl, Java, BASH), Linux system administration, Docker, OpenStack, and extensive experience with any of the major cloud service providers. Excellent communication and writing skills are required and experience in building cloud web services is desirable. Interest in biology is a plus.
