Horizon Discovery Global Bioinformatics Manager Bioinformatics (R&D) - Research Operations - Lafayette, CO - Full Time We have a great opportunity for a manager to lead a global Bioinformatics team.
Reporting to the Head of R&D and responsible for the oversight, coordination and accountability for all Bioinformatics activities within the business. Programs under this management include supporting R&D applications, new product development, supporting current Horizon products and customers, and innovating within the Bioinformatics team for development of value-added services, products, and support for internal and external customers.
Lead a team of Bioinformatics professionals as a hands-on technical manager. Coordinate different research activities within the group to prioritize and execute on projects supporting teams across the business, aligning with business strategy and objectives. Support individual professional development of team members. Give constructive feedback regularly.
Work closely with R&D products and services teams, marketing, and other stakeholders to understand scientific challenges and needs across the business including data needs and software requirements. Plan and implement applications, curate data, perform data analysis and assist in the implementation of new products and services to meet Horizon’s business strategy and ensure Bioinformatics solutions are world-class quality.
Develop, test, and document custom software to facilitate product design, data analysis and value for the customer. Provide internal support for all technical aspects of product lines.
Effectively communicate within the Bioinformatics team and cross-functionally to share priorities and strategic alignment with the business. Work closely with IT to support and expand the business.
Lead innovative initiatives within Bioinformatics and ensure highly collaborative interactions with other teams in support of a One Horizon company culture consistent with Horizons Imagine, Inspire, Ignite values. Work with Head of R&D to plan and direct budgets, goals, and resources. Provide regular reports to update on priorities and milestones. Qualification, knowledge and key skills
PhD degree in Bioinformatics or discipline of Biology or Chemistry. Proven experience as a strong leader, ideally in cross functional teams, with multiple direct reports. A team player with strong interpersonal skills and empowerment capacity to inspire and ignite others and to develop their talents and abilities. A mind-set for innovative thinking and an interest in the development of technology and new products. Strong software development background with experience working with a variety of leading-edge technologies. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, especially cross-functionally. Self-motivated and results-oriented mindset. Works well in fast-paced team environment. Solid background in Bioinformatics, molecular biology and gene editing. Experience with Cloud services (AWS, Azure, Google,…) or High Performance Computing (HPC), and Next-Generation Sequencing a plus. Candidates shortlisted for interview will be required to prepare a 30-minute presentation on a topic that will be shared with you before interview. In addition, candidates will be asked to complete a Talent Q assessment.
