What is possibly the best AWS virtual machine for bioinformatics analysis work. I have free tier AWS account.
At 1 vcpu and 1GB of memory, a t2.micro
instance allowed within the free tier just isn't going to be enough even for building something out of the most basic bioinformatics applications.
One of the use cases where we would actually customize an AMI is when we're trying to mount multiple ephemeral storage come with the instance type. For the most part though, we prefer to use a vanilla version of the Amazon ECS-Optimized Amazon Linux AMI and customize the runtime environment using container services like docker. This approach provides us with the flexibility to create identical environment outside of the AWS ecosystem during development and testing. It also allows us to migrate code from one cloud provider to another with ease in order to take advantage of various time-sensitive promotional offers.
