Hi,
I hope this is not seen as too off-topic.
We are trying to create a new Stack Exchange site for Research Computing. I suppose this would be quite interesting to folks here. Stuff ranging from Linux and Cluster usage and management to Scientific programming and High Performance Computing.
The proposal is currently in definition stage at Stack Exchange.
Interested? Then you can help this becoming a reality.
Register on the site (very easy if you already use some of their sites like Stack Overflow)
Up-vote some of the questions. For the site to go to the next phase it needs at least 40 questions with 10 up-votes: it is actually more useful if you find interesting questions which have less than 10 up-votes at this stage. You have 5 votes.
I feel like these topics would fit just as well in the already existing Bioinformatics Stack Exchange (or ServerFault for cluster setup/management). What do you hope to add by creating a separate stack exchange site? I expect you might struggle to get the activity necessary.
This is way more broader than Bioinformatics only. It applies to many other sciences.
There are also non technical parts, like grant writing, financing, dealing with funding agencies.
Some of the technical parts are also a bit specific to academia. SLURM and LUSTRE for example.
But more important than that, this community already exists and is quite big (at least here in the US). It works mostly on mailing lists (some of those are actually closed to the general public). This needs to be more open.
I have noticed this as well; it seems that the specifics of research computing can have very different requirements and considerations outside the sphere of Bioinformatics
Bioinformatics is one of the many applications of Research computing: physics, climate change, economic modelling, geosciences.
Lots of stuff apply: scientific programming, installing scientific software, management of scientific clusters...
am I missing something or is it not yet possible to submit answers for these questions?

You are correct. This is not the final site, at all.
At the current stage, Stack Exchange is evaluating the interest on the topic and that means:
Nothing more.
If 40 potential questions have 10 upvotes or more, this goes to the second stage.
The third stage would be the launch of the beta site. That is what we are aiming at.
OK thanks. Still having trouble logging in to upvote questions, is there a reason why my StackOverflow account might not work? When I go here, I am logged in, but when I go here or here or here I am not logged in and my StackOverflow credentials do not work.
I think they might need you to register there and afterwards confirm your email. In my case I used my Google account as auth and was easy - no registration info. But if not, there might be the providing of information on registering.
