I have a FASTA sequence that I would like to convert to either CIF or PBD in order to run rasmol and generate a 3D structure of a protein. How do I do this?

A fasta file does not have enough information (fasta is sequence only) to generate a 3D structure. But if there is a file for the protein you are interested in, in the pdb, then you can use that.

Fasta sequences are the input to structure prediction servers/programs, but you can't simply convert a fasta to a PDB.

Structure simulations can vary radically depending on your actual protein, so may be total gibberish. You'd need to appraise this carefully.

If you have an amino acid fasta you're unlikely to need to do anything further to make it compliant with those tools.
