Hello, all. Could you please, give me some advise and links, how to get a personal fellowship in bioinformatics. I did my PhD several years ago and then I worked in industry. I wish to come back to lab. I do not qualify for postdoctoral position already (I did a PhD more then 6 years ago). The majority of fellowship programs are the postdoctoral programs. Does anybody knows the programs, How to work just a personal fellowship, but not a postdoc?

By definition all positions you would apply for after your PhD are "post-doctoral", so I am not sure what type of programme you are looking for?

You may not need to join a lab per se, but rather a bioinformatics core as a staff scientist. This may be better as you are more likely to have a wider range of contacts and collaborations within the department or university to which that core is affiliated than if you were working within a single lab. I would not at all discount this type of position.

In the UK there are fellowships called Research Fellowships that are for people that have several years post-doctoral experience. They typically allow independence, i.e. you can hire PhD students etc. Is that what you mean? Wellcome Trust and The Royal Society offer such schemes.
