My current research is focused on retinoblastoma tumor progression. I am developing a method to determine the transcriptomic consequences of recurrent somatic copy number alterations in retinoblastoma. Copy number changes during tumor progression are associated with decreased photore- ceptor identity, increased clinical severity and higher age at diagnosis. I participated in research at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles that demonstrated the utility of aqueous fluid and constituent tumor-derived cell-free DNA as a biomarker of retinoblastoma progression. Furthermore, SCNA abundance and recurrent 6p chromosome gains in cell-free DNA are predictive of eye salvage. I am working to identify the transcriptomic consequences of SCNA changes by measuring the transcriptomes of tumor subclones with a given recurrent gain or loss.
