Dear all,

I installed Bio-Linux 8 (based on Ubuntu 14.04 LTS) under VirtualBox 5.0.16 on a Mac OS X 10.9.5 machine. The default user is called manager. The problem is that whenever I need root privileges the system asks for a password for manager (which I never set). Using default passwords as password, Password, Ubuntu and similar does not help (not even leaving the field blank, or trying my Mac user password). Also, several procedures I found on the web require root privileges, so it is a vicious circle. Any suggestion?

As Bio-Linux is an exquisitely bioinformatics-devoted Linux distro, I hope this question is pertinent here; however feel free to close if not.

Just found it by chance! I typed manager and it worked!

Hello,

you can also try: sudo su and then enter your user password.

For example:

user: hadoop this is the one that was typed it in the installation.

then open the terminal and type sudo su and use the password you set for that user.

Hope this helps!

Best.

Hi torvilleg14, welcome. Actually this would not work, as in Bio-Linux 8 I was not asked to set any password. Really one should rely on a default password (which in this case is manager), thanks anyway!
